I began running in high school in Detroit, MI when I joined the track team. Presently, I live in the metro Washington, DC area. Little did I know then that I’d be running in marathons today. Eighteen to date, in fact. Looking back, I’ve only run races over the last eight years.
In my late 40’s I had a major setback when I contracted neuropathy, a painful nerve disorder. Not knowing what was causing the pain, I tried to ‘fix it’ on my own without seeking medical care. I became crippled with nerve damage in almost all of my toes which forced me into medical care. It took about a year before I could slowly build up to running again. It can’t be cured so I live with it every day. I continue to make this setback a setup for a comeback.
Flash forward to present day and the multiple races I’ve run in various countries and states. I’m on course to complete my 50 states half marathon challenge.
As a member of several running groups, I’m avowed the opportunity to have a network of running friends globally. I love to travel and meet some of them in person. My running family has gifted me the title of running ambassador because they never know, ‘Where in the World is Wil’ going to be next?
So how amazing is it that the Run Show USA asked me to be an ambassador? Exactamundo! It’s great!
