Join a Club or Find a Coach through the RRCA
Running is a unique sport – a runner may venture out for a solo run around the neighborhood or the track, meet up with a running group, or participate in events that bring together hundreds or even thousands of runners. The physical, social, and mental benefits of running are well documented: greater muscular and bone strength, increased cardiovascular endurance, reduced anxiety and depression, and improved mood, among other perks. Who wouldn’t want to join in the fun?
The Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) is the umbrella organization for community-based running clubs and events throughout the U.S. Joining a club is a great way to get started or to take your running goals to the next level. Most clubs only require a reasonable dues rate to join. Many clubs offer organized training programs and group runs designed to meet the needs of a variety of paces and abilities. Clubs also provide a great social network in a supportive environment, and help keep you accountable. You can find RRCA clubs in cities and towns across the U.S. Use our Find a Club tool to locate an RRCA club near you.
The RRCA has trained a national community of knowledgeable and ethical distance running coaches to work with runners of all ages and abilities through our Coaching Certification program. RRCA Certified Coaches work with runners and emphasize the use of intelligent training plans that are based on a scientific body of knowledge and designed to help a runner achieve their goals, while minimizing the risks of injuries. They help runners get started, get faster, go farther, return to running after injury or a long break, stay motivated, and more.
Many clubs have RRCA Certified Coaches that lead group runs and training programs, and they can be a resource for helping you find a coach if you are seeking more individualized, one-on-one coaching services. Coaches may offer their services in person and/or online, and may focus their efforts on training individuals and/or groups. Use our Find a Coach tool to locate an RRCA Certified Coach near you.
