After swimming competitively for 13 years, I began my coaching career to share those experiences with the next generation. Looking for new personal athletic challenges as well, I took up running and triathlon in 2016.

After completing my first half marathon in 2017, I walked (or limped, considering how under-trained I was for that race in hindsight!) away with a much deeper understanding of running as a sport – and I knew I was hooked! There is something about running that really tests oneself physically and mentally, putting one foot in front of the other and building momentum, that spoke to me as an athlete.

I went on to complete the Pittsburgh Marathon in 2019, and hope to compete in more. I’ve crewed (not run myself, yet!) several ultra-distance races as well, which really put in perspective what a physical and mental test can be.

Running is as much a part of my life now as swimming, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. The friends I’ve made, places I’ve been, and lessons I’ve learned from this sport have changed my life – and I look forward to many more great running experiences!
