Brian Harvey

Brian’s running journey started when he was seven years old and completed a 10K road race with his mom. The rest of his youth, Brian mostly did “ball sports” like soccer and basketball. After failing to make the cut for his high school soccer team, Brian decided to join the cross country team, mostly as a way to make friends. Brian improved throughout high school, eventually winning two Maryland state championships in the 1600m his senior year. At Carnegie Mellon University, Brian was a five-time Division III All-American, with a top finish of 2nd in the 5000m at the 2009 Outdoor Track Championships. After college, Brian moved to Boston to pursue his PhD and joined the Boston Athletic Association. Brian has represented the USA in three international races: twice in 2012 at the Armagh Road 5K where he ran his PR of 14:00 and Ras na hEireann 6K XC, and again in 2016 at the Great Edinburgh XCountry International Challenge 8K.

For the past 8 years, Brian’s passion in running has shifted to the marathon distance. Brian’s fastest marathon time is 2:17:05; he has run under 2:21 on ten occasions. Brian qualified for three US Marathon Olympic Trials (2016, 2020, and 2024), and finished 32nd in the 2016 Marathon Trials. Brian has run three Boston Marathons, finishing in the top 30 each time. Brian’s wife, Stefani, also runs marathons competitively for the BAA. When he is not running, Brian is a biomedical engineer at ZOLL Medical and loves playing and learning with his energetic, opinionated, and precocious five-year-old daughter, Olive. Most recently, Brian paced Emily Sisson to American Records in the half marathon and marathon.
