At the National Running Center our physical therapists will conduct a 2-hour comprehensive gait evaluation that is covered by most insurances. Our staff are licensed DPTs and have specialized training in evaluating and treating runners of all ages and abilities.

We can also provide a detailed biomechanical analysis using an instrumented treadmill, which provides additional detail to inform an individualized gait retraining program. This is offered for a small one-time fee.

Our services include use of procedures to accelerate healing from tendon, joint or bone injuries. We offer extracorporeal shockwave and other forms of regenerative medicine techniques, including platelet rich plasma.

The running program is evidence-based and informed by research discoveries. In addition to receiving optimal care of a running related injury, injured runners may also have opportunities to participate in research that transforms their care and the care of future injured runners.

About the National Running Center

The National Running Center, located at Spaulding Hospital, and part of Mass General Brigham Sports Medicine, is one of the premier centers in the United States devoted exclusively to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of running injuries in runners of all ages and abilities. Based on the campus of Spaulding Hospital Cambridge and affiliated with Harvard Medical School, the Running Center provides evidence-based clinical care developed informed by overall body of running research.

The scientists at the Center implement motion capture technology, real-time feedback devices and gait retraining expertise to assess and treat each individual client. The SNRC is a national and international training site for post-doctoral and doctoral students, medical residents and fellows, and scientists from many disciplines.

The mission of the National Running Center is to expand the current understanding of running related, musculoskeletal injuries with a focus on treatment and prevention, and to use this understanding to provide our patients with the most effective evidence-based care. Whether you run for fun or have a competitive spirit, our goal is to keep you running!
