1–2 Mar 2025 100 days to go! #BostonRunShow Tickets

Phil Shin

It’s a real thrill for this California runner to join such a passionate and talented community of athletes for Run Show USA!

My story isn’t much different than many of yours. I’m just a regular guy trying his best to be the best version of himself through running.

I’ve run 21 marathons and most recently ran the 2020 Los Angeles Marathon. I was scheduled to run my first Boston Marathon which ultimately got canceled and then resulted in cancelling my first Boston to Big Sur Challenge. Now like many of you, I’m a runner without a race.

What makes my story a little unique is that I’m a recent liver cancer survivor and underwent a liver transplant in September 2019 to hopefully be rid of the cancer for good.

I’ve been recovering well from the transplant and have been actively running again. I have made it my mission to help raise awareness for rare cancer, liver disease, and organ donation through my own personal journey. I completed running 200 miles in December 2019 (3 months post-transplant) as a pledge to fundraise for the American Liver Foundation which raised nearly $8,000. I also ran the 2020 LA Marathon for the Brave Like Gabe Foundation and raised over $10,000 to help in the fight against rare cancers.

I hope to draw tons of inspiration and knowledge from the running community through your own journeys as I attempt to achieve my goals despite my health challenges. I look forward to meeting all of you and supporting you while we run together once we rid this pandemic once and for all.
