George Degen began running as a member of his high school cross country team in Madison, Wisconsin, and went on to compete for Carnegie Mellon University as an undergraduate and UC Santa Barbara in graduate school. He joined the BAA shortly after moving to Boston in summer 2021, and has run the Boston marathon each of the last three years. He especially enjoys the challenge of combining marathon training with the indoor track season, pairing long runs in the Newton hills with races at the many wonderful indoor track facilities in Boston. Apart from running, George is a postdoctoral researcher in mechanical engineering at MIT, and enjoys trying new restaurants with his wife.
