Running is my saving grace. I have been running races every year since 1989, from 5Ks to marathons to ultramarathons (except for 2009 when I was unable to walk and run normally due to an undiagnosed myelopathy of the spinal cord as a result of severe B12 deficiency). My body doesn’t produce enough natural B12 to make the myelin sheath around my spinal cord. I have been on B12 injections for life since 2009.
I have been running ultramarathons since 2005 – 50 milers, 100 milers, 12-hr, 24-hr, 48-hr, and multi-day ultras. I am a published author. Come What May, I Want to Run: A Memoir of the Saving Grace of Ultrarunning in Overwhelming Times was published in 2023. My book is available in hardcover, paperback, and e-Book. Use code Ultrarunning40 to receive a 40% publisher discount. My book is also available on Amazon, Bookshop, and Barnes & Noble. I am training for my upcoming 35th and 36th ultra.
Inspired by my 26 years of suffering with eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), and when physicians could not heal me, I healed myself when I created my own diet of eliminating preservatives, additives, food coloring, steroids, antibiotics, pesticides, and insecticides from my food. I am currently writing a second memoir and a cookbook to help others who suffer from eosinophilic esophagitis, a rare autoimmune disease of the esophagus, and one which has never stopped me from running.
