Jones Walmsley is a 30+ year sports industry professional and has been a runner since the early ‘80s when she first gave the sport a try in middle school. She was a member of the Notre Dame Academy (Hingham) Cross Country team during the years when the school won 4 consecutive All-State Titles, the first two on JV and the last two in the Top 7.
A walk-on at the University of Maryland, College Park, Walmsley competed on the varsity cross country and track teams before transferring to Harvard University. At Harvard, Walmsley became a 5x Division I All American and represented the United States at the 1989 World University Games. In 1989, she was ranked as the #1 collegian and 4th in the country in the 10K. She was inducted into the Harvard Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 2006.
Jones Walmsley was awarded an NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship which she used to complete her Masters in Sports Studies at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. During her time in Amherst, she was a graduate assistant coach for the UMass Cross Country and Track and Field Teams. A nine-year career at Wellesley College followed as Associate Director of Athletics.
Jones Walmsley began working for the Boston Athletic Association in 2000 as an Assistant Coach of the B.A.A. Running Club and has served in her current role as the B.A.A.’s first Director of Youth and Community Engagement since 2014, She derives personal and professional satisfaction – and great joy – in sharing her passion for the sport of running with others.
